The Ark Woodcraft Story
I'm Nathaniel—or Nate, depending on who you ask.
Woodworking started as a hobby. In my early twenties, my wife and I purchased our first home while caring for our two-week-old baby. The house needed plenty of work, and with a growing family and a limited budget, I began collecting inexpensive tools and scraps of wood to tackle projects myself. One day, I needed a small table to sit beside my drum set, so I decided to build one. What started as a simple project quickly became a passion.
In May of 2025, I found myself without a job and grieving the loss of my son. It was the lowest point of my life. Around that time, I met the owner of Deadwood Sawmill, who gave me the encouragement and advice I needed to take a leap of faith and start this business.
When it felt like my world had flooded, woodworking became my olive branch. That's where the name Ark Woodcraft comes from. The Ark in the Bible wasn't just a remarkable feat of craftsmanship—it was also an act of faith. Building this business required both. Ark Woodcraft became my ark: something built with my hands, sustained by faith, and dedicated to creating something lasting from life's most difficult seasons.
